Reluctant Housewife: DIY Hand and Home Cleaners
Now, that we're deep into the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and fear ranging from "this is silly" to "I live in my grandparents bomb shelter now" one thing we've all experienced is the disappearance of cleaning supplies and hand sanitizer. With people auctioning off cleaners on Ebay and Facebook for ridiculous prices and because there's none to be found anywhere it's time to get creative. Besides, if you can't leave the house why not do a little DIY to pass the time and help not pass more germs?
Below are some ways to make your own hand and home cleaners whether you're trying to be more green, socially conscious or are really in a pinch.
DIY Hand Sanitizer
Aloe Vera Gel
Rubbing or 99% Alcohol
Essential Oil for fragrance
Squeeze bottle or container
Depending on your container you're going to use two parts rubbing alcohol to one part aloe vera gel. For instance, for a small travel container used normally for shampoo use a shot glass or something similar to add parts.
Add a few drops of essential oil and mix together in a bowl. Transfer to container and use as much as you like. This recipe of close to the alcohol ratio of the commercial brands.
DIY Clorox Wipes
Paper Towels or 6 Microfiber Wash Cloths
1 tbsp dish soap
1 cup Distilled Water
1/2 cup Distilled White Vinegar
10 drops of Essential Oil
Add your liquids together in a large bowl or bucket and mix.
Put your cloths or thick paper towels in your airtight container and pour liquid in. The cloths will be more environmentally friendly and tougher on stains, etc. But, if you're not into doing laundry then use the paper towels.
