Apple Hand Pie
2 Granny Smith apples peeled and chopped into 1 inch pieces
2 tbsp butter
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp brown sugar
cinnamon to taste
1 pre-made pie crust
Preheat your oven at 400 degrees.
Let your pie crust come to room temperature and set aside.
Chop your apples into one inch pieces. Place your butter in a skillet on low until it browns. About 3-5 minutes. Watch it carefully. Add apples, sugars, salt and cinnamon and stir on a medium-low heat until juices reduce and apples are soft. About 10-15 minutes. Once soft place on a plate to cool for 5 minutes.
Place your crust on floured parchment paper and cut down the middle to make two pieces. Place 1/2 of your apples in the middle of one side of crust. Place the other side of crust on top. Pinch the edges with your fingers or a fork.
Whisk one egg and brush onto your pie. This helps is brown beautifully.
Put in the oven for about 35 minutes. Because the apples are cooked you're looking for the crust to be a nice golden brown color to know when it's done and ready to be taken out.
Let it rest out of the oven for about 10 minutes and then grab and go!
